Left parent's home a bit early to get back to Southampton since the afternoon was looking good for a big-kit sail.

Got home around 2pm, checked the Lee-on-Solent weather station, reporting 11-13 knots. So a big-kit sail was looking just about possible, but I was knackered after a long drive and wasn't sure if I could be bothered.

Eventually summoned up the energy and will-power to go for it and chuck the kit in the car. Only stuck the Bee in as an after-thought, since I really didn't think I would need it, but thought best not to risk it. Left the 4.5 behind.

Got to Salterns Park around 3.30pm and it was windy, more than expected. Was looking good for the JP + 6.0 combo, so quickly rigged up.

BUT THEN..... just after I finished rigging up.....hello is it getting windier?!? People were coming in off their 7.0's saying they were way too big now, and one guy who had just gone out on a 5.5 said he was well powered...!!! So the JP went back in the car, and out came the Bee. WOOHOO!!!!

Thought maybe I should de-rig the 6.0 and throw up the 5.2, but since I had already rigged the 6.0 gave it a go on that. Straight away realised it was too big. Oh yeah! So came in (after a surprisingly good gybe considering how overpowered I was and how choppy it was, and on my weaker side) to change down to the 5.2.

And then all was well. A cracking sail in the sunshine, proper windy, not at all expected.

The good bits:
- WINDY! Perfectly powered on the 5.2 for pretty much the whole session. Could have been on smaller for the first hour or so.
- sunshine!
- warm!
- lots of nice gybes, and one dry duck gybe! Albeit with a very messy exit, and only the one attempt out of about 10 that was successful, but on this one got the sail-duck spot on. Will definitely go for them again next time.

The not so good bits:
- front port footstrap came dettached early on whilst sailing. Straight away thought that was it session over, but after limping in fortunately was able to fix it.
- the messy Solent chop, which made gybing tricky on the outside, and an often bouncy and uncomfortable ride.
- lots of not so nice gybes (see above)
- kitesurfers everywhere taking up lots of space. Got called a f***ing windsurfer by one (when I was on starboard, he was on port.....)

Got tired towards the end, and a bit annoyed with the chop which was limiting what I wanted to do, but all in all a great session. Arriving just as the wind was picking up was a nice stroke of luck. Hoping for more of the same today.
